Pattern Drafting
The foundation of the LowLine fit is a proprietary pattern drafted specifically for men 5’9 and under. This is not a standard pattern scaled down. Scaling reduces the size of every measurement uniformly while preserving the proportions of the original — which means the body length, sleeve drop, and shoulder slope remain calibrated for a 5’10 to 6’2 frame, just smaller. The result is a t-shirt that fits a shorter man like a small version of a wrong shirt.
LowLine Apparel approaches pattern drafting differently. Each measurement is recalculated independently for the target proportions of a man under 5’9. The body length is shortened so the hem sits at the natural waist. The sleeve is cut shorter and recalibrated in width so it lands cleanly at the upper arm without bunching at the elbow. The shoulder seam is moved inward to sit on the shoulder rather than slipping below it. The chest, waist, and hip measurements are graded to maintain a clean silhouette without the over-tightness of a slim fit or the volume of a regular cut.
The result is a pattern in which the proportions are correct from the first cut, not approximated through scaling.
Fabric Specification
LowLine Apparel uses 180gsm premium combed cotton in its construction. The fabric is pre-shrunk to ensure dimensional stability across wash cycles, and finished with a two-stage wash — an enzyme treatment that softens the surface fibres, followed by a silicone soft wash that delivers a structured drape and a clean hand feel.
The cotton is selected for the balance it strikes between softness and structure. A fabric that is too soft will lose shape after the first wash. A fabric that is too rigid will not drape correctly on a shorter frame. The 180gsm combed cotton specification, with the two-stage wash, is calibrated to hold its shape without feeling stiff against the skin.
Colour Process
LowLine Apparel uses reactive dye on every garment. Reactive dye forms a covalent chemical bond with the cotton fibres, rather than sitting on the surface. This produces deeper, richer colour and significantly better wash-fastness compared to alternatives like sulphur dye, direct dye, or pigment-based finishing. The result is a black tee that stays black across years of wear, and a grey tee that holds its tone without fading toward green or brown.
Each colour is matched to a specific Pantone reference — currently Pantone Black C and Pantone Cool Gray 3 C — and dyed to that reference for batch-to-batch consistency.
Construction Detail
The construction reflects the same precision as the pattern.
The shoulder is finished with invisible stitching, sometimes called ladder stitching, which produces a clean continuous line from the neck to the sleeve without the visible double-needle topstitch found on most mass-produced t-shirts. The shoulder-to-shoulder seam is reinforced with bias tape to prevent stretching and maintain the original silhouette over time.
The neck is finished with a single-needle topstitch in colour-matched thread, sitting flush against the rib for a sharp line. The hem and sleeve are finished with tight, matched stitching designed to hold their position across wash cycles.
The neck label is heat-transferred rather than sewn, eliminating the irritation of woven labels against the skin while maintaining brand legibility.
Quality Control
Every LowLine Apparel garment passes through documented quality control before dispatch. Inspection is conducted to AQL 2.5 standards — a recognised statistical sampling protocol used in premium garment manufacturing — with a minimum of five randomly selected units measured against the master size chart per production batch. Photo and video evidence of the inspection is documented and retained.
The protocol is designed to catch sizing drift, fabric defects, and construction inconsistencies before any garment reaches the customer.
